Merry Christmas!

leave a comment

We just had a very nice Christmas celebration. I think this is the first Christmas we have ever all been together. We just missed having the grandparents here.

Amanda, Barry, and Caty spent Christmas Eve morning with their mom and old friends for breakfast, and then Christmas Eve with their mom and maternal grandparents.

We went to church this morning, and everyone came over to our house for the afternoon. We opened presents and enjoyed sharing gifts, and then had a wonderful dinner of ham, Swedish meatballs, homemade mashed potatoes, and biscuits, and then a little later a dessert of Scandinavian fruit soup. Janet really outdid herself. The greatest part of it all, though, was enjoying each others company. We truly are blessed.

God bless us every one!

Barry goes to the endo

leave a comment

Maybe Barry will tell you a little more about this himself, but just to share a bit of news: he went to the endocrinologist in Knoxville for the first time yesterday, and really liked them. Very professional and very thorough, they were, and they talked straight with him but with humor, and without talking down to him—which is apparently really different from his experience with his former endocrinologist in Asheville.

The news was good and bad, depending on how you look at it. Read the rest of this entry »

Hannah’s tilt

leave a comment

Hannah continues to work on her head control, which in a lot of ways is better than it was. But she still obviously has issues. It can wind up giving her an interesting way of looking at the world, though.

Hannah and Brooke consider each other

Here Ms. Brooke and Hannah consider each other in a way that only Hannah can do. When she makes eye contact with you, there is no doubt that there is a lot of thinking going on in there. We hope to help her eventually tell us what it is.

OK, here’s a mad Hannah

leave a comment

All right, here’s one Hannah picture. She’s getting therapy from Miss Brooke, and you can tell that she has just had enough.

Hannah's unhappy with somebody.By the way, this picture was taken before we had to trim her hair. She looks a little different now.

Bowling balls and trims

leave a comment

Barry has really gotten into bowling with Zach. A lot of our friends know Zach has been bowling for, I think, three years now, and has gotten really, really good. He and Janet got Barry involved in the bowling league when he moved here, and he has been steadily improving. Today he bowled his first official “turkey” (for the non-bowlers, that means he bowled three strikes in a row, not that he killed any birds).

Yesterday Janet tried to comb out Hannah’s hair, and she had drooled in it so much that she couldn’t get all the tangles out—not without hurting Hannah a lot. It almost killed Janet, but she finally has broken down, gotten out the scissors, and trimmed Hannah’s hair. She’s still a beautiful baby, of course, and I understand why Janet didn’t want to trim, but with Hannah’s condition it’s really, really hard to take care of her hair, especially when she fights shampooing and bathing so much.

We’ll have some new pictures soon.
